I am a pre-kindergarten teacher at a private christian school.  I work mornings with 4 year olds (most of whom enter my class in July still being 3 ) and then in the afternoon I work “daycare” – which is basically my own class combined with 3 and/or 5 year old children.

I had no idea growing up I would be teaching pre-k today!  Although we have many teachers in my family – I was determined not to “be like them.”  Haha!  Look at me now!  It took me totally off guard – but in the end I wouldn’t change a thing!

I have worked with children whose ages range from 6 weeks through 12 years old.  In the end I have decided that my current age group is my favorite!  They are young enough to still be excited about learning but old enough not to need constant assistance with EVERYTHING under the sun!  Perfect!

As a teacher my philosophy comes from all styles of teaching!  I love Bev Bos’  theory of teaching through play (and desperately wish this is how my school would let me teach) and I adore the Montessori practical life activities – some of which I’ve incorporated into my class – great fine motor, eye-hand coordination exercises!  I also like the imaginative and natural aspect the Waldorf approach includes – I have tried to replace my plastic tubs with natural baskets and include more plants and imaginative aspects into my classroom (as much as my non-existent funds allow).  Lastly I really like the Reggio approach of giving children some control over their learning and exploring everything they can!

I really love my job and have a passion for what I do everyday!  I am always looking for new ideas and approaches to my work and I welcome ideas and comments!  Hopefully we can all learn from each other and enjoy it along the way!  🙂

And in case you were wondering – all names mentioned are changed to protect the identities of those involved.

Enjoy!

  1. Hi TTD – stumbled upon your blog through Pre-k pages – glad to have found you. I’ve peeked through some of your entries and look forward to checking back again. I just started a blog this year – as a way to stay creative and on top of my game. I look forward to including your work in my dialog – Elbows, Knees, Dreams is another that I check too. Thanks!
